Nick Crowell is a detective who was shot in the line of duty in a cemetery several years ago chasing a purse snatcher. While he did survive and returned to active duty, he now encounters people who have strange phenomenon happening to them. They come to him for help and he does what little he can for them.
To further complicate Crowell's life, he is still in love with his ex-wife who is now remarried and living in Jersey. Also, he's been assigned to break in a black female partner, the strikingly beautiful Jay Cole, a single mom whose husband left her seven years ago under mysterious circumstances.
Guiding him through all of this is an ex-cop by the name of Phil who runs a bar called No Promises as well as a mysterious man by the name of Mr. Bones, who talks to Crowell by phone from a phone booth long ago torn down!
This novella- about 120 pages long- is rated PG for some language and mild sexual content
